05.08.2026 | ISSEY MIYAKE SHINJUKU | SHIKAKU ISSEY MIYAKE EYES “COIL”

The SHIKAKU at ISSEY MIYAKE SHINJUKU presents an installation, “COIL” by ISSEY MIYAKE EYES.

ISSEY MIYAKE EYES “COIL”

A coil derives its structure from the continuous progression of a single wire. While its form is based on the rational repetition of a simple line, its rhythmic spiral evokes a subtle sense of movement through elasticity and resilience.

The new COIL model translates this sculptural quality into the design of sunglasses. The bridge and end pieces feature delicate coil-shaped details formed from approximately 1 mm diameter β-titanium wire.

The front adopts an under-rim construction, with the upper edge supported by a nylon cord and a fine metal rim along the lower edge. By using an ultra-thin 0.5 mm rim wire, the structure supporting the lenses is understated to create a light and refined appearance around the face. The temples are made from high-strength, slender β-titanium, while the temple tips use a slim 2.0 mm profile, further enhancing the lightweight design.

The collection offers three lens shapes—round, triangular, and square—each designed to echo the coil's simple, geometric structure.

Combining the delicate features created by the continuity of wire, an exceptionally lightweight fit, and the flexible strength unique to β-titanium, COIL embodies ISSEY MIYAKE EYES’s pursuit of both technical innovation and refined design.

This exhibition presents the coiled forms created by the continuity of lines throughout the space, and introduces the ISSEY MIYAKE EYES lineup centered on the new model “COIL,” which draws inspiration from this structural beauty.
