The CUBE at ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 445 presents a special exhibition, “Mark Borthwick: Something Out of Nothing Into Everything” by HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE.

From Wednesday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 28, HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE will host the special exhibition “Mark Borthwick: Something Out of Nothing Into Everything” at ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA | CUBE.
This exhibition presents the HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE Autumn/Winter 2026/27 collection In a New Light through the eyes of British photographer Mark Borthwick. The collection is represented through photography and cinematography, harnessing Borthwick’s unique craft of light manipulation. Designed under Borthwick’s direction, the exhibition space not only serves as a backdrop that complements the work on display, but also realizes the overarching mesmerizing visual language.

About this Project

The concept and design and making of HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE’s collection In a New Light, is something that resonated with Borthwick’s photography, which celebrates the serendipity and ephemerality of natural phenomena. Through this visual approach—capturing fleeting scenes such as the textured surface of the pleats, the translucency and layers of drapes blown in the wind, and the shadows created by the act of wearing—the clothing is reimagined by Borthwick’s poetry in a series of “continued moments”.

This exhibition presents photographs by Mark Borthwick featuring the garments, alongside a film capturing the movement of pleats in transitioning light. A printed zine, edited and designed by Borthwick, will be displayed at the exhibition, including handwritten poetry by the photographer himself. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to immerse themselves in a small installation inspired by the photographer’s personal workspace, inviting the viewer into Borthwick’s distinctive and visionary world.
