01.09.2025 | ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA | CUBE 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE “Folded Forms, Formed Reflections”
The CUBE at ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 445 presents an installation, “Folded Forms, Formed Reflections” by 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE.

132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE is a brand created in 2010 from the collaboration between Issey Miyake and the Reality Lab. team based on the principle of exploring “tomorrow’s manufacturing.” By combining the development of sustainable materials, including recycled polyester, with the structural principles of three-dimensional origami folding, the brand has opened up new possibilities in clothing from both material and pattern perspectives.
This exhibition focuses on the “folding structures” that are the foundation of clothing construction with a multifaceted introduction of 132 5.’s creative approach. After one end of a piece of fabric folded in multiple layers is lifted, it rises while rotating and takes shape as a garment. The process of this transformation, where the beauty of form and a sense of surprise intersect, is presented as an installation that visualizes the movement of the folds.
Additionally, the exhibition uses both video and physical materials to trace the journey from raw material recycling to thread, fabric, and finally the garment itself. By following the concepts and practices of the Reality Lab. team and the techniques cultivated through collaboration with artisans across Japan, the exhibition sheds light on the deeper layers of creativity behind the visible forms.
Folded shapes are rooted in Japan’s culture of folding and also constitute the unique approach to manufacturing developed by 132 5. through innovative folding structures. Experience this world that redefines the very concept of clothing.
